Not Sure How to Drink Poitín? Try it in These Cocktails.

With Irish Whiskey hitting new peaks in popularity, Poitín is gaining momentum as well.


You can sip Poitín straight or on the rocks, but it reveals a whole new set of possibilities when you use it in cocktails. The guys from Glendalough kindly shared the recipes created in their Poitín cocktail competition - we're sharing our favourites and all you have to do is get inspired and start mixing. 3, 2, 1 - go!

St Kevin's Garden

  • Glass: Old school flute
  • 50 ml Glendalough Poitín
  • 10 ml Lemon juice
  • 20 ml Honey
  • 4 Mint leaves
  • 2 Thyme sprigs
  • 2 Blackberries


Muddle the blackberries, mint and thyme in a shaker tin, add the lemon juice, honey and finally the Glendalough Poitín. Shake well with ice and double strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with a herbal blackberry flower.

This cocktail recipe by Tom Doran won the "signature cocktail" section of the Glendalough Poitin cocktails competition.

Orchard Martini

  • 50 ml Glendalough Poitín
  • 20 ml Peach
  • 10 ml Lemon
  • 30 ml Cloudy apple juice


Orchard Martini recipe is by Alan Glynn from 37 Dawson in Dublin and should not be difficult to re-create. Just combine all of the ingredients in a shaker with ice. Serve in a collins glass.

  • 50 ml Glendalough Poitín
  • 10 ml Monin Lavender Syrup
  • 3 dashes Rhubarb Bitters
  • Lavender for garnish


Stir all the ingredients in a mixing glass, strain over cubed ice into an old fashioned glass, garnish with a sprig of lavender.
