All about Ben Nevis

Ben Nevis' core Scotch Whisky offering are consistently highly rated. You will notices a thick, full-bodied dram that always tastes "fresh" and dry on the tongue with candied walnuts. There is peat in the process too, but the smoke does not overwhelm. And the finish wraps oh-so smoothly with trailing dark chocolate. As the ageings get longer, the nuttiness increses too with additional warmness and notes of toffee and brown butter.

All about Ben Nevis distillery

Ben Nevis Distillery is named for the mountain that rises above it in the western Highlands. It gets its alpine water from two pools high on the mountainside -- Coire Leis and Coire na’Ciste -- that drain into a stream called Allt a’Mhuilinn.

The site was founded by the colorfully-named "Long John" McDonald -- a tall, imposing character -- in 1825. When he died in 1856, his son Donald took over. Success continued and they had to build a second distillery next door. Eventually both grew into each other and they were formally incorporated together as one.

The rest is a common story -- bought and sold, acquired and merged -- until they are as they are now, a subsidiary of Nikka Holdings, in Japan. They opened a visitor center in 1991.

They have three core single malt offerings in their range, along with special editions and their famous Blue Label premium. They have also issued a few special editions and independent bottlings, which they support through an annual production of 2 million liters.
