All about Dictador
The history of the Dictador brand goes back to 1751 when Severo Arango y Ferro arrived to Cartagena, where his power would soon earn him the nickname of Dictador.
More than a century later, in 1913, Don Julio Arango y Parra, a descendant of the Dictador established Destileria Colombiana.
The main Dictador range comprises a selection of solera aged Rums of varying ages.
More recently, the company has released a series of young, 100 month straight aged Rums and a series of long-aged single cask bottlings.

All about Dictador distillery
The Dictador brand is produced at Destilería Colombiana, in Cartagena, Colombia; a distillery that has been in production for over a hundred years. The production process indicates they use a syrup produced by boiling off the water from freshly pressed sugarcane juice, rather than molasses.
This syrup is fermented for 48-60 hours and then filtered readily for distillation. Distillation is carried using both copper alembic (pot still) and continuous column methods.
The main USP for the brand is that the rum is aged using a variation on a solera system.
So, whilst the main expressions are listed as ‘Aged 12 Years’ and ‘Aged 20 Years’, in reality, these are average age statements.
The indication is that the cask management is skillfully worked to impart the different nuances in the flavor profile.
