A winning Rum for winning cocktails.
A. H. Riise was a pharmacist from Denmark who resettled in the Danish West Indies—now the US Virgin Islands. Other islands had begun distilling Rum, but none in Danish-controlled areas, so good ‘ol Mr. Riise did just that and procured a warrant to supply Rum to the Danish navy. This naturally gave rise (pardon the pun) to their first core product, Danish Navy Rum.
oday, A. H. Rise has changed hands, but it is still located in St. Croix where they acquire fresh molasses distillate from the famous Cruzan Distillery on Saint Thomas to age and blend in the creation of a full range of Rums, from youthful mixing Rums through super-premium sippers.
At the end of the 19th century, exhibitions were a big deal in Europe. One of them was the Nordic exhibition of Industry, Agriculture, and Art of 1888 that took place in Copenhagen. It’s also the exhibition where A.H. Riise Rum won Gold. More than 130 years have passed and A.H. Riise has won plenty of other Gold medals, but this one is still special.
A.H. Riise 1888 Copenhagen Gold Medal was inspired by that victorious moment. It’s an elegantly sweet but bold and fruity Rum that releases flavors of oranges, tobacco, and creamy caramel on the palate.
