The story of two Indies.
India used to be known for cheap Scotch Whisky blended with shady Spirits, but since Amrut started producing their own Whisky, things really changed. Established in Bangalore in 1948 by J.N. Radakrishna Rao Jagdale, Amrut Distilleries brought premium Spirits to India. In addition to their beloved Whisky, they also produce Rum, Vodka, Gin and Brandy. Oh, and Amrut is a Sanskrit word that means "nectar of life", which is quite close to the Aqua Vitae we're used to. The distillery is mostly known for their Old Port and Amrut XXX Rums, but they're bringing one particularly exciting expression to the table this time: the Two Indies Rum.
As the name itself reveals, it's a story of the two Indies: the East and the West. The eastern side of the Spirit is the Indian Rum made from "jaggery", a concentrated form of cane juice, a sort of sugar cane sweetener, normally used in candy production. The western part of the blend comes from three Caribbean countries, namely Jamaica, Barbados and Guyana. Despite the strong influence of the West Indies, Amrut Two Indies Rum remains unmistakably Indian in its flavor profile, where you can actually taste the terroir. What this bold blend does is take one 15th century sailor's mistake, and the history of sugarcane, blend and bottle them at 42.8% ABV, creating a fine sipping experience.
