Atlantico Gran Reserva Private Cask might be a perfect sip of the Caribbean.
Aleco Azqueta and Brandon Lieb were classmates at Georgetown University who both got jobs at spirits industry giant Bacardi. Aleco then worked at Grey Goose Vodka and Dewar’s Scotch. In 2008 they decided that the market needed a consistent, premium Rum, and that they were going to make it. Thus, the two friends founded Atlantico Rums. They distill and combine 100% Dominican Rum two ways — from Molasses and from sugarcane separately. Then they blend the results to achieve the perfect taste and — importantly — all aging is completed using the Solera method to achieve consistency. Currently, Atlantico has three Rums in their line-up — Platino (white), Reserva, and Gran Reserva.
Gran Reserva is Atlantico’s top-of-the-line Rum. It is a blend of their signature molasses and cane Rums produced in painfully small batches and aged up to twenty-five years. It is also one of the most awarded Rums in the Caribbean with multiple Gold and Double Gold medals from international competitions. It is also the favorite of Latin singer Enrique Iglesias — who has taken up the role as spokesman for the brand. But the real test is in the glass. And Atlantico Gran Reserva Private Cask passes that test with flying colors.
