As every Rum buff (or buccaneer) will tell you, a tot was a daily ration given to sailors by the Royal Navy, and it amounted to about 70 milliliters of Rum. Black Tot 40YO Demerara Rum was distilled in Port Mourant, Guyana, which has a history of Rum-making almost as long as the concept of the navy tot. The immensely extravagant Rum was created in the now-demolished Uitvlugt distillery from molasses. It spent at least four decades in ex-Bourbon white American oak barrels before bottling it in Scotland.
The nose offers rich and dense notes of licorice, star anise, black olives, and cigar smoke, while the palate goes for thick and dark flavors of treacle, olive brine, cherry, and smoke. Ah, we’ll be dreaming about this dram.
