From the place of many deer.
Prohibition put an end to distilleries in all parts of United States and somewhere it is until recent that they have brought back to live tradition of Spirit making not that long forgotten. One of the first to be alive after the prohibition is Catoctin Creek Distilling Company in Loudoun County, Virginia. Run by Harris family in the middle of a wine producing country it get’s its name from the Indian tribal name "Kittocton" which, legend has it, meant "place of many deer". Sure it is easier to source your Rye from big guys in Canada, label it and sell it as your own product but Scott, a former IT guy, and Becky, his wife a chemical engineer took the hard road and decided to distill from scratch and learn everything as they go forward. Organic is the name of the game and all of their products are sourced locally when possible, free of pesticides and chemical additives.
Catoctin Creek Roundstone Rye Whisky is 100% Rye and aged in new Minnesota white oak casks for just under two years. This old time favourite is product of Scott’s so called midlife crisis and Becky’s determination to keep their business in line with their vision, the vision to stay small and perfect every detail with every new batch.
