Park Borderies Mizunara Cognac: Where French Elegance Meets Japanese Tradition

In the highbrow Borderies region, Cognac Park is where dreams and craftsmanship share a Scottish brogue. Gaston Tessendier's 1880 ambitions became a four-generation saga of family zeal and cognac wizardry. From its roots to the '95 alliance with Scotsman Dominic Park, this brand's been crafting a tale of tradition and innovation on their estate, Domaine Du Buisson, 25 hectares of top-shelf vineyards.

Park Borderies Mizunara Cognac: the perfect mingling of cultures where Japanese oak whispers its secrets to a blend of single "cru" Cognac. Mizunara is a rare variety of oak from Japan used to create barrels mostly used for aging Japanese whiskies. To create Park Borderies Mizunara, a unique barrel finish is employed to a beautiful blend of Single cru cognac from the Tessendier family estate in the esteemed Borderies growing region. These blends spend at least four years in lightly toasted oak, followed by six months in Mizunara oak casks. The Mizunara cask finish brings intensity and depth, conferring notes of vanilla, cocoa, and spice. These rich notes meld seamlessly with the lighter, floral character of the Borderies cognacs. Produced in limited editions due to the difficulty of obtaining Mizunara casks. A great find for the collectors!

Definitely has a floral nose w...

Definitely has a floral nose with some fruitiness, which was definitely followed on the palate. Lots of fruit, with most definitely pear and tropical flavors and a hint of honey and oak. I will admit, I rarely drink brandy or cognac, and when I do, it's usually after a steak dinner at a good locally-sourced, locally-owned restaurant. I don't always know what I'm getting there, but this is generally better than what I've had. I like it, but it's not something I'd drink a lot. Goes on my secondary "Buy" list just to have in my home bar. I may try a few other samplers to see why this got more than a few really negative reviews, but then, I'm a Scotch and Irish whiskey drinker more than anything.

Not smooth at all.. it misses all the things I (personal opinion) associate with a good cognac. Colour is “pisswater” - nose is not full and more harsh, like a flower perfume.. . taste is weak and reminds me more of a whiskey t.b.h .. finish is short, except a bad aftertaste.
Though the idea of the he barrels was a good one but this was a waste.
