A Brandy that reflects a true taste of Portugal.
C Da Silva Vinhos was founded in 1862 and was consolidated into a production house by Clemente da Silva in the early 1900s. The vineyards and estate are located in Douro — the historic home of Port Wines which takes its name from the river flowing past the steeply sloped vineyards of northern Portugal. The company markets several brands of Port Wine and vintages produced on the extensive estates. They started distilling their Wines into Eau-de-vie and aging Brandies more than one hundred years ago under their Dalva brand.
When you see V.S.O.P. (Very Superior Old Pale) it means that the youngest spirit in the bottle has aged a minimum of four years in oak. But with Dalva Brandy V.S.O.P Extra Special, the “average” age of the Brandy is at least twenty years. So not all V.S.O.P.’s are created equal and this one is “Extra Special” indeed. And there is another difference. Dalva ages it’s Brandy in their ex-Port Wine casks, so the flavor is both refined and fresh at the same time and you your get a great sense of the terroir — the taste of the land. It’s a unique approach, but when you control everything from vineyard to bottling you get to do special things.
