The smoothness of Wheat Whiskey with enough rye spice to entice.
Don Poffenroth and Kent Fleischmann were two fishing buddies standing knee deep in a stream. In hushed tones they discussed how lucky they were to live in the beautiful Pacific Northwest… and some drinking was going on too. Soon, they hatched a plan. In 2007 they founded Dry Fly Distillery — the first legal distillery in Washington State since Prohibition. They use the finest local ingredients to craft their award-winning spirits with a line-up that has grown to include five Whiskies, Two Gins, and Vodka.
While some other world Whiskies use Triticale as a component, Dry Fly Straight Triticale Whiskey is the only Straight Triticale Whiskey. Anywhere... In the world... If you are new to Triticale, it’s a hybrid of wheat and rye. Sounds perfect for Whiskey, right? And so it is — delivering the smoothness of wheat and a light peppery-ginger flavor and aroma of rye. It’s aged three years in new American oak and bottled at 88 proof/44% ABV.
Smartass corner:
The word triticale comes from the Latin family names of wheat (Triticum) and rye (Secale) thus “Triti-cale.” It was developed in Scotland and Germany in the 1800s to cross-breed a productive, flavorful grain to grow in harsher conditions.
