BUT… they are still family owned. In fact, they are the only family-owned production house left in Kentucky. You’ve got to respect the Shapira family! The Spirit brands owned and controlled by Heaven Hill includes Evan Williams, Elijah Craig, their namesake Heaven Hill, and many dozens more.
Evan Williams Single Barrel Bourbon Vintage 2003, came out in 2015. Our sources have dug deeply into their Bourbon cellars and they’ve come up with a few cases of this blast from the past.
Each year, Bourbon aficionados around the world wait eagerly for the annual Even Williams Vintage Single Barrel release. For this edition, Heaven Hill took casks laid down in 2003 that had aged for ten years and seven months. The mash bill in 75% corn, 13% rye, and 12% malted barley and it’s bottled at 43.3% ABV — so you know that this is a sweet and smooth dram with a light floral note on the nose.
Smartass Corner:
The original Evan Williams is a legend. In 1783 he opened one of the first commercial distilleries in Kentucky on 5th Street in downtown Louisville. Then, like now, location is everything. It was a combination of high-quality Whiskey and easy access to the city that spurred his success.
