Galliano, Spirito Italiano. How did this iconic Spirit come to be? It all started with a terribly charismatic Italian national war hero. That’s where this luminously gold Liqueur got its name from. Arturo Vaccari created it in 1888 in Torino and it’s still made there today at Marasci Quirici. The recipe could be mistaken for a medieval elixir with all the herbs, plants, roots, spices, and flower seeds that go into it. And all the herbs still come from the area today. Galliano rose to fame during the great Gold Rush when thousands of Italians fled to California and Galliano was right there to remind them of their homeland. Even the tall, slender bottle was inspired by the columns of Rome. The Italian Spirit par excellence.
Galliano Liquore L'Autentico is their core Liqueur. A bunch of precious Mediterranean and exotic botanicals are picked for a perfectly balanced blend. Juniper, caraway, cardamom, sandalwood, star anise, cinnamon, sage, thyme, mint, lavender, and Madagascar vanilla are in there and we know they use multiple macerations and distillations but the final recipe is still a closely guarded secret. That’s okay as long as we get to enjoy this unique Liqueur that was awarded 90 points by Wine Enthusiast and a whooping 95 points by the International Wine & Spirit Competition in 2022.
