I got this as part of a tasting box of Irish Whiskies, which apparently didn't impress me enough to leave notes on! What they did to this Irish Whiskey makes it a standout in my book. On my first sip, I had to admit that the spiciness was a tad overwhelming, but once you get beyond that, it's a very pleasant, drinkable whiskey! It's just that almost-harsh blast at first, but then, it seems to get tamed with the second sip, and by the third, you're getting the tropical fruit notes, along with a little cocoa and caramel at the end. Long, slow burn for a finish, which is not always pleasant, but in this case was nice as it was quite cold outside. Not sure about the "wood" notes of cedar - didn't quite get that, but otherwise a very pleasant surprise from the Emerald Isle. Depending on what the price will be when it's available here, I might add it to the Irish Whiskey side of my bar.
