Glenmorangie 18 has taken "The Priz" — beating all comers in its category.

Located near Tain in the northern Highlands, the Glenmorangie Distillery was founded in 1843 when the Matheson brothers converted the Morangie farm into a distillery by the sea. The stills are the tallest in Scotland at 26’ — ensuring that only the lightest vapors make it to the top and resulting in a smooth, fresh, and elegant range of 23 fine single malt Whiskies. Glenmorangie is the best selling single malt Whisky in Scotland and the rest of the UK, and one of Uncle Flaviar’s personal favorites.

If you're already a fan of Glenmorangie single malts, then you understand. If you are new to Glenmorangie, you — my friend — are in for a treat. The core single malt in the Glenmorangie line-up is a classic Highlander aged for a decade in ex-Bourbon casks. The 18 YO takes this winning formula up a few notches in complexity and sophistication by starting with an initial aging of fifteen years. Then about 1/3 of the spirit is placed into Oloroso Sherry casks for the remaining three years while the rest stays put. Both parts are then remarried for bottling. The end result is deliciously rich and sophisticated.

Smartass Corner:
In the cult fantasy-film hit The Highlander, after Connor MacLeod catches up with the lovely Brenda Wyatt at a local tavern where he orders a Glenmorangie — surprising and impressing the bartender.

For someone who’s a Bourbon ...

For someone who’s a Bourbon guy through and through, I really loved this Scotch. The nose had a wonderful mix of florals and dried fruit while the palette took that a step further with some sweet honey. From what I’ve seen, the value on this bottle is great too!
