Glenrothes Robur Reserve is born from very special trees, used to make very special Sherry casks, and thus, it’s a very special Whisky.

The Glenrothes distillery was founded in 1879 by the burn of Rothes in Speyside. The distillery is interesting because it determines the maturity of their expressions by the vintage, not the age. This means they bottle vintages by year, rather than mixing expressions by several years. As a collector, this allows you to enjoy and appreciate each vintage for what it is, a moment captured forever in a bottle.

Glenrothes ages most of their Whisky in a combination of casks … some American Oak, some European. That’s no secret, right? The boys at Glenrothes have been doing that since forever. But not all European oak is created equal. Some of the best is Spanish oak—a species called Quercus Robur—which grows mostly in northern Spain.

If you take that special wood and make barrels and then age Spanish Sherry in it, what you end up with are some of the most expensive Whisky barrels around because they add the wonderfully enigmatic combination of richness and spiciness that all the Whisky-lovers love. That’s where Glenrothes Robur Reserve gets its name … because they only use those special trees growing in northern Spain that grow up to make special Sherry and thus, very special Whisky. Lucky trees!

Really nice dram with a solid ...

Really nice dram with a solid body, very much full of sherry, which you can feel both in smell and taste. Nice fruity-spicy aftertaste. Must try for those who appreciate sherry notes!
