Awesome Glenrothes stuff.
The Glenrothes distillery was founded in 1879 by the burn of Rothes in Speyside. The distillery is interesting because it determines the maturity of their expressions by the vintage, not the age. This means they bottle vintages by year, rather than mixing expressions by several years. As a collector, this allows you to enjoy and appreciate each vintage for what it is, a moment captured forever in a bottle.
Glenrothes has always done things a bit differently. Notably, they issue Whisky in “vintages” by maturity … meaning by taste rather than by an objective age. Does it taste right? No? Then it stays in the cask until it is. You have to respect that. The Glenrothes Select Reserve is a blend of their vintages. So it’s really not a “blend,” right? I mean, it’s all awesome Glenrothes stuff, just from different vintages. So do call that “single-malt-blendish-thingy” or what? It doesn’t matter. Just pour a dram and forget the linguistics.
Glenrothes Select Reserve is a wonderful expression of Speyside golden Scotch wonderfulness. John Ramsey—the Glenrothes malt master—mixes each batch from the more variable vintages to create a consistent, quality Highland spirit that embodies all of the character and style of this notable Scotch.
