Highland Park 21 Year Old

Perhaps the best, truest example of Highland Park craftsmanship.

Highland Park is the most northerly distillery in Scotland on the island of Orkney. Legend has it that it was founded by Whisky smuggler Magnus Eunson in the late 1700s and that he used his position as a church officer to conceal Whisky beneath the church pulpit. Don’t assume that “Highland Park” means their Whisky is made in the Highland style. In character, their spirit is closer to a midpoint between Lowland and Islay Single Malts. Perhaps the most famous Whiskey connoisseur of all time — journalist Michael Jackson — called Highland Park, “The greatest all-rounder in the world of Malt Whisky.”

There are no less than fifty exceptional Single Malt Whiskies listed in Highland Park’s catalog. Highland Park 21 Year Old is NOT one of them. That’s because this delicious dram was created especially for the travel retail market. Good for those flying business class through Amsterdam or San Francisco, bad for the rest of us because this particular edition has been called “the best” example of Highland Park’s skill and heritage by experts and was named Best Single Malt of the Year in 2009. Incredibly high demand caused shortages. But this gem is back at it’s original 47.5% ABV and it is our favorite of their entire, gorgeous, extensive line-up.
