Founded in 2014 by Bill Dobbie and Alasdair Day, the distillery brought whisky-making back to a remote island of just 161 residents. Their philosophy is simple and uncompromising—every drop of whisky is distilled, matured, and bottled on Raasay, using 100% Scottish barley and mineral-rich island water. The result is a spirit deeply tied to its place of origin.
Your sample, The Draam, is the distillery’s flagship single malt and a perfect introduction to Raasay’s style. It combines both peated and unpeated spirits, then matures them in a unique mix of six cask types, including ex-Rye, Chinkapin oak, and Bordeaux red wine casks. This layered maturation creates a complex profile with dark fruit, gentle smoke, sweetness, and a smooth, velvety body.
