Learn more >We welcome back the traditional Italian Rosolio Liqueur with a wonderful example fit for a king.
Giuseppe Gallo is well-known in the world of Italian Spirits and craft cocktails. Not only has developed his own Spirits, but he has staged exciting product launches, promotions and regularly trains upcoming hospitality professionals, and consults with new bar owners on designing great experiences. The man is living the Dream like few others.
Italicus Rosolio di Bergamotto Liqueur was launched by Gallo at the Savoy Hotel in London in 2016. It’s based on a recipe from the 1850s that was called "Aperitivo de Corte" — The Aperitif of Kings. The primary infusion is Italian Bergamot — a traditional citrus fruit about the size of an orange but ranging from lime green to lemon yellow in color with medium sweetness. The exact recipe is a secret, but we detect citron and the requisite rose petals along with other herbals and florals.
And we have to say that we love the gorgeous bottle with its aqua-green glass and deco styling. It tastes great AND looks great on the bar.
Smartass Corner:
Rosolio is a category of traditional Italian Liqueurs that start with pure alcohol, water, and sugar in roughly equal proportions. The mixture is infused with rose petals and various flavors and/or botanicals to develop each variety.
Appearance / Color
Pale Yellow
Nose / Aroma / Smell
In a word, the aroma is amazing with a perfect balance of citrus and florals over a base note of woody herbs.
Flavor / Taste / Palate
The flavor profile proves the nose with tangy citrus and florals on center stage and the addition of bitter root and a dash of spice.
Finish
The finish is medium-length but there is a lingering floral note that haunts long after the dram is gone.
