An award-winning, Scotch-beating Taiwanese Whisky.

Kavalan was established in 2005 by Lee Tien-Tsai, who named the distillery after the indigenous people who originally inhabited the Kabalan Plain. A lot of experimentation and refinement went into the Spirit that aimed to represent sincerity and passion, and after four months, first drops trickled from Kavalan stills. After releasing their first bottling in 2008, they experimented some more and won in a blind tasting during the 2010 Burns Night, beating three Scotches and one English Whisky. Now, that’s something else!

Kavalan Concertmaster is a superb continuation of that enviable legacy. The coveted Taiwanese Whisky was matured in American oak before receiving a lush finish in Ruby Port, Tawny Port, and Vintage Port casks from Portugal. The fruity-vanilla nose and rich palate of Port, oak, and white pepper, earned Kavalan Concertmaster the ‘Best in Class’ title at the 2011 International Wine & Spirit Competition - not to mention a plethora of other accolades. Enjoy it with chocolate!

Day 16 of the advent calendar ...

Day 16 of the advent calendar on the 27th. Still got some catching up to do. Gonna be honest with this one. I was pretty distracted while tasting it. Kid woke up and had family matters rise up. But just enjoyed sipping on it. Can’t really talk much about it’s tasting notes though. Probably wouldn’t mind another glass but it also didn’t blow me away.

Grape and vanilla dominate the nose with a hint of cherry. Soft and elegant in the mouth, with a bit of sweetness accompanied by notes of grape, cherry, vanilla, wood, and even a touch of banana. Oak coats the mouth for the finish. This one's great.
