Celtic tradition. The French way.

France may not be the first country associated with the tradition of Whisky, but its Celtic tradition runs long and deep -- the Breton people from the Brittany region in the north-west are descendants of British immigrants from the time between the 3rd and the 9th century. Staying true to the Celtic ways, the Glann ar Mor distillery, established in 1999 by Martine and Jean Donnay, pays attention to every detail of its Whisky-making process, using the heritage and the wilderness of Brittany to its advantage.

The moderate climate, the saline sea air, and meticulous steps all help shape the award-winning Kornog single malt Whisky, which was voted “European Whiskey of the Year” in Jim Murray’s 2016 Whiskey Bible. Using non-cold filtration, wood fermenters (made from Oregon pine instead of the standard stainless steel) and particular reverence for their craft, the Donnays have created a perfect balance of peaty and milder, fruity notes in their Kornog Taouarc’h Kentan 15BC. Matured in ex-Bourbon barrels, this complex Whisky is a gem in a long but too often overlooked tradition of Breton distilling.

Smartass corner:
Unlike stainless fermenters, Oregon Pine (also called the Douglas fir) fermenters allow the development of a small colony of yeasts that work together with the fresh yeast used by the distillers, bringing more complexity to the Whisky.
