The unbeatable king of Islay.
Lagavulin certainly is one of the most robust, peaty Islay Malts around. Established in 1816, the Lagavulin Distillery is located on the Isle of Islay, where you find miles of peat bog that provides the raw material that influences the Lagavulin.
Part of Dieageo’s 2021 Special Releases, Lagavulin 12 Year Old 2021 Special Release is inspired by the legend of the King of Islay. Once upon a time, there was a rampant lion on the grounds of an Islay castle. Eventually, the lion took over the crown with his exceptional flame and ferocity. Today, it represents the fiery Lagavulin distillery.
This bottling was aged for a dozen years in refill American oak casks. A classic Lagavulin 12, this golden liquid greets first with sweet citrus notes and salty flavors that develop into intense woody notes, rounded by a warm finish with lots of chili pepper and great smoke.
