Lagavulin is located in the village of … Lagavulin, on the island of Islay. Now, if your know your Islay single-malts—and we know that you do—then you know a bit what to expect. The entire Lagavulin line has that savory-sweet smokiness that Islay-lovers love to love. But Lagavulin is a bit of a special case because they have won more medals than Michael Phelps … double gold medal here, 95-points there, “best of” this and that.
John Jonston and Archibald Campbell started “officially” making Whisky here in 1816 and the distillery is famous for their extra-long, low and slow distillation process and the unique, pear-shaped stills. But you won’t care about that. Islay Whisky fans love them for producing an exceptionally smooth, sophisticated, and flavorful single-malt from the smoky island.
