The boldest and most badass Whisky of all time.

If you ever wondered where Lagavulin got its name, it's pretty straightforward: it's the name of the bay near one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland. Since then, the lavish and peaty water that runs down the nearby hills has been the blood of the distillery and its Whiskies.

While Lagavulin is known for pretty awesome expressions, this time they outdid themselves and created a Single Malt so intense and smoky, Bruce Willis called and asked if he can be its sidekick.

The Lagavulin's peated barley has 20 times more exposure to peat smoke - it's like an office in Mad Men - and the Whisky is distilled twice, for 14 hours in total.

This unbelievably smoky Spirit is then aged for 16 years in old-school oak casks, and after that, it gets a fine PX Sherry finish. We don't know about you, but just writing this makes our mouth water. It's sweet caramel, vanilla, and dates with a healthy dose of smoke. It's so intense you'll wear a knowing grin for a week.

Appearance / Color
Golden syrup.

Nose / Aroma / Smell
Intense peat and vanilla on the nose with a lovely dance of sweetness and smoke.

Flavor / Taste / Palate

Ridiculously long, fruity and peaty.

Every bit 9f this is wonderful. From nose, taste and finish to what now remains of the bottle (a fourth that will stay there for some good time til the right time to say goodbye).

Perfect - after this the 8 year doesn't live up, and I'm almost sad since this is so hard to find.

Very smoky and peaty on the nose and first taste but a definite sweetness that pervades.

On the nose, smoke is subdued ...

On the nose, smoke is subdued compared to the 16 and other Lagavulin offerings. I got some coffee, vanilla and Sherry but a sweetness prevailed. Very viscous mouth feel like a syrup. On the palate it is much sweeter than the 16. Finish had some lingering cinnamon and spice. I prefer the 16, 9 year old and 8 over this.
