Laphroaig An Cuan Mor Single Malt tastes like it was made for the sea… to be sipped by fishermen who earned their daily dram fighting the demons of the deep.
Laphroaig Distillery was founded in 1815 by Donald and Alexander Johnston and is located in Port Ellen, Isle of Islay. Although Laphroaig isn't allowed to put the prefix ‘Royal’ in its name (yet), rumour has it his royal princeness Charles of Wales is a fan of the ‘L’ Whisky. The 15-year-old is reportedly the prince's favourite Scotch. For a long while there’s been frenzy for Laphroaig’s Scotch, especially those less-available expressions.
Laphroaig is the Islay malt that serves as the standard by which all others are judged. They are the standard-bearers for the hearty, smoky style that Islay is famous for. "An Cuan Mor" translates roughly as "Big Ocean" and that is exactly what you get. Laphroaig An Cuan Mor tastes like Poseidon himself started distilling Single Malt Whisky.
The effect is amazing. At every level — aroma, taste, finish — you "feel" the sea, sense the spray of the ocean, taste the captain’s pipe smoke, and breath the salty air. Laphroaig An Cuan Mor is aged in first-fill, ex-Bourbon casks, then finished in French Oak, and that combo generates a full body and viscosity that completes the package, making it the perfect dram to drink and the end of the day by a cold Spring harbor.
