Smoke on the Island.

Tobermory distillery is situated on the Scottish island of Mull, in the village of Tobermory. The distillery, formerly known as Ledaig, is the only distillery on the island. It was founded in 1798 by John Sinclair, has changed hands several times and undergone a number of closure periods.

These days the brand name ‘Ledaig’ is used for all their lightly peated malt Whisky, whereas the unpeated Whisky is sold as Tobermory. While most of the distilleries in the Island region mature their Whiskies on the islands themselves, Ledaig matures them on the Mainland.

The Ledaig 10 YO is distilled from peat dried Barley and has the strength of around 30-40 PPM. It is aged for 10 years in Oak Wood casks. The medicinal peat smokiness can easily put this Whisky beside the famous peaty Islay Drams. A fresh and vivid drop with just the right amount of smokiness.

Appearance / Color
Bright gold.

Smell / Nose / Aroma
Honey, brine and a little citrus. Some smoke and gentle peat are also present.

Flavor / Taste / Palate
Oaky, spicy and smoky. There is some light peat present with earthy tones and black pepper.

Finish
Long and warm finish with sweet peat, spices and smoke… Rubber can really taste good!

Very strong peat on the nose. Spicy and ashy on the palette. Long finish. Adding some water/ice makes it a bit more smooth and drinkable. If you don't like heavy smoke, stay away because this is for the advanced scotch drinker. The closest Islay that I have had is the Ardbeg Wee Beastie, though this is a little softer than that.
