It’s as if ancient Celtic Wizards stood their feet firm upon the local moors and said to the Ivy-league marketing MBAs, “You shall not pass!”
Linkwood distillery was founded in 1821, which the alert reader might notice was a few decades before it was technically “legal” to do so. The company was founded by Peter Brown with two stills. And though the business has changed hands several times and is now owned by Diageo they have maintained their good reputation for quality and integrity.
Located in the hamlet of Elgin in Moray Country Speyside, this smaller producer has been churning out their signature, light single-malt Whiskey flying low… off the radar of most folks. A large portion of their production is used in various premium blends—Johnny Walker, White Horse—but they have their own classic single-malt issued in limited releases.
Linkwood 12 Year Old does not mess around. It’s as if ancient Celtic Whiskey-Wizards stood their feet firm upon the local moors and said to the Ivy-league marketing MBAs, “You shall not pass!” This is a simple, clean, and refreshing Whiskey. But not simple in a juvenile or unsophisticated sense… it is simple in a “don’t mess with the good stuff” kind of way.
Pure, local malt and fresh spring water properly distilled and aged in a combination of American Oak and Spanish ex-Sherry casks. Oh… and by the way, let it sit undisturbed for a dozen years and call it good. And “call it good” is exactly what you will do, too. Those ancient Celtic Whiskey-Wizards would be pleased.
