A golden boy from the heart of Ireland.
When the Cooley distillery launched their single malt expression in 1992, the first mature cask was tapped by the grand-daughter of the last John Locke (not related to the great philosopher, though). Today, it's still here and better than ever. First of all, this delicious Spirit is a single pot still Whiskey. What's that? It's similar to single malt, but not quite. It's made by a single distillery from a mash of malted and unmalted barley, distilled in a pot still. The idea of adding unmalted raw barley to the mix came up back in the 18th century when the English king taxed malted barley.
Locke's finest bottle is aged for at least eight years in oak casks in the 200-year-old warehouses in Kilbeggan, smack in the middle of Ireland. This golden and grandiose booze is double distilled and 10% of the malt is peated. It's medium-bodied with an abundance of fruit and spicy oak. It won Gold Medal and Best in Class in the 2009 International Wine and Spirits Award and we're positive it will win your heart and mind.
