Lignell & Piispanen is arguably the finest distiller in Finland. They claim to be “Artisans of Arctic Luxury Liqueurs” and it is hard to argue with that professionally-crafted marketing tag line. They have been around since 1852 — with the blessing of King Gustav III.

Their products include the Gustav Vodka range, the seasonal Loimu Glögi Mulled Wine, Lakka and Mesi dessert Wines, and several other Spirits. But they only export 30% of their production out of Scandinavia, so you will not find their premium products everywhere.

Christmas just ain’t Christmas in Scandinavia without Glögi. People have been mulling Wine as long as there has been Wine. Glögi is the traditional version of this seasonal treat from Finland, and it can be served either hot or cold.

They tweak the recipe each year to keep things fresh and special. Loimu Christmas Glogi 2020 is a warming mix of premium Red Wine macerated with cranberries and a host of seasonal spices. Each year is a limited edition release, but we managed to find a shipment of perfect bottles from that 2020 batch so you can celebrate Christmas in the springtime.
