A balanced, Blended Malt Whisky assembled from a range of Scotland’s Single Malts with Glasgows 1770 Single Malt at the heart of it all.
The original Glasgow Distillery Company operated from 1770 through about 1902, falling to the great Whisky recession that saw many a distillery shutter their doors. The current iteration was founded in 2012 by Liam Hughes, Ian McDougall, and Mike Hayward with production beginning in 2014. They have expanded to produce a wide range of Spirits from Single Malts to Gin and everything in between. And they recently received financing to expand production even further and bring their products to Asia and North America.
Malt Riot Blended Malt Scotch Whisky is a combination of Single Malts collected from across Scotland, but Glasgow's own 1770 Single Malt forms the core of the blend. The result is a balanced and approachable dram with a sweet and zesty profile that reminds us of Christmas cake with a dash of applesauce.
Smartass Corner:
In 1725, the British government imposed a tax on malted barley. As you might imagine, this was a less-than-popular thing to do. The people revolted and the tax collectors were chased out of the city in an event now known as The Malt Riots.
