A hand-crafted Belgian Gin built around juniper and exotic marula fruit from Nambia.
Thomas Wuyts is the founder of Marula Gin — a line of Belgian Spirits created in partnership with the GinTin Distillery. He founded the company in 2013. For most of the time since then his products were only available locally. But now things have started to really take off and his products are gaining international distribution. Currently he produces two Gins and one Gin-based Coffee Liqueur.
Marula Gin is the Spirit that started things off for Thomas. Built on a base of juniper and marula fruit, the additional botanicals include orange blossoms, rose petals, lavender, and coriander. With the heavy reliance on florals botanicals the Gin takes a perfume-like quality with a lovely smoothness and notes of exotic fruit.
Smartass Corner:
The Marula Tree — Sclerocarya birrea, sometimes called the "elephant tree" — is native to Central Africa and Madagascar. The tree is made famous because when the fruit over-ripens and falls to the ground it naturally ferments. Elephants eating the fallen fruit can become drunk.
