Nikka Coffey Grain is made from a mash bill that contains mostly corn and a dash of malted barley before being distilled in a Coffey still (a.k.a. patent still). The founder, Masataka Taketsuru, imported a Coffey still from Scotland back in 1963 because he desired a grain spirit that was high in alcohol content, but still retained the character, flavor and aromas of the grain.
Nikka doesn’t part with the casks easily. SWMS really won the lottery when they got their hands on this great Japanese Whisky.
Rarique! - a new word we invented for... Well, rare and unique!
