There are more than Ocho reasons to try this Tequila.
The Camarena Family is one of the most famous names in the world of Tequila and have become synonymous with the Spirit. The family hails back to the 18th century when their Spanish ancestors came to Mexico and co-founded the town of Arandas, where their distillery still stands. They planted their first agave plants 150 years ago in the highlands of Jalisco.
After the blockbusters like El Tesoro and Tapaito, they presented us the pure agave Spirit No.8, or Ocho. Now, the number Ocho isn't here just because it looks cool. It's actually laden with symbolism and lucky coincidences. This very Tequila is made from the eighth sample concocted by the Camarena family and it takes eight years for the agave plants to ripen on average. To make one liter of Ocho Tequila, it takes - you guessed it - 8 kilos of agave! Then, it takes 8 days for the agaves to become unaged (Blanco) Tequila. Ocho Reposado is aged for 8 weeks and 8 days (so, nine weeks and a day, but it does sound better). In addition to that, Carlos Camarena has eight siblings and his family is in its eighth decade of Tequila production. Someone call Jim Carrey to film a prequel to Number 23!
This Tequila is a product of an old concept of "terroir", which means the agaves are harvested from single estates. And it shows: complex nuances bear the personality of the unique microclimate and soil. Ocho Reposado is aged in ex-American Whiskey barrels and it's made with pure Blue Agave. That gives it a delicate aroma, a fine flavor and just a hint of oak.
