The Tropical Whisky.

Indian Whisky is not your usual Scottish Single Malt or a blend because it’s comprised out of molasses and not different grains. But not all Whisky made in India is molasses based… Oh no! John Distilleries from Bangalore (oh, so they're not just dancing over there?) in southern India started out as a typical Indian Whisky producer back in 1992 and soon became one of the 3 biggest Whisky producers in country. Building a distillery in tropical Goa, Paul John uses 100% 6-row Indian-grown barley and American oak casks to produce a Single Malt that can go head to head with their Scottish counterparts.

The Indian barley used in the production comes from the foothills of Himalaya and is different to the European one because it yields less alcohol but gives out a higher flavor profile. The maturation itself happens in a tropical climate that is very harsh on the Angel share, over 8-10% evaporates each year... That is why Indian Whisky matures quite a lot faster than Scotch.

Paul John Paul Brilliance is matured in Bourbon barrels for 6-7 years and is unpeated. It is the first release of the flagship series of Single Malts from Paul John, pivoting away from the more common Indian blends and they’ve done their job more than well! Brilliance from sun-kissed beaches of Goa.

Love the sweet afternotes, a nice surprise. The burning just after I sip is a bit much for me but I appreciated having a taste.

It's fair. I tried this bc I am a fan of Irish Whiskey, so I thought it could be fun to try India's take on single malt. However the different type of barley (6 row) they use lacks the richness found in the two row barley of Ireland. It's not terrible, but I'd be happier with Bushmill 10yr at $43 or Powers Gold Lable at less than half the price.
