Bringing back Jamaica’s Rum funk.

Plantation Rum is owned by French Cognac producer Maison Ferrand, who control no less than a dozen major brands premium Spirits and liqueurs. Sometimes that is an iffy proposition, but not in this case because the folks at Ferrand are all about quality… and you can taste it.

Plantation Rum is their top shelf Rum label. And mighty good stuff it is, too. They offer a variety of Rums from the Caribbean. Depending on the plantation and the country of origin, the Rums can vary between soft and aromatic to light and elegant… each one showing the gentle, experienced influence of Maison Ferrand.

Plantation Xaymaca Special Dry Rum is a 100% pot still Jamaican Rum that brings back the traditional Jamaican style from the 19th century. It was created by Master Blender Alexandre Gabriel who wanted to offer the legendary “Rum funk” and the ancestral culture of Rum. And what exactly does Rum funk mean? Well, it’s a complex combination of many things, but some characteristics include aromas and flavors of black banana and flambéed pineapple that you won’t get in other Rum styles.

This is a blend of Rums, distilled in the old John Dore pot still at Long Pond and the Vendôme at Clarendon. It was tropically aged for 1-3 years in Bourbon casks and continentally aged for 1 year in Ferrand casks. It should be enjoyed like a fine Whiskey; over an ice cube or with a drop of water to open up the smoky notes.

Smartass Corner:
Xaymaca Special Dry was named in honor of the island’s first inhabitants, the Arawaks, who named the island Xaymaca.
