Pyrat Rum XO Reserve is a very unique Rum. It is a semi-complex blend of select Caribbean Rums, aged up to 15 years in French Limousin and American sweet oak barrels.

Appearance / Colour
Light, reddish amber colour.

Smell / Nose / Aroma
Sweet, Orange, vanilla, cola, cinnamon, brown sugar, honey. You will be able to identify this Rum from several feet away once you pop the cork.

Flavour / Taste / Palate
Very sweet aromas - almost like Triple Sec - of orange, tangerine and lemon, are the most dominant, followed by a waxy vanilla and brown sugar, and perhaps a hint of cinnamon and pepper spicing it up.

Finish
Sweet finish that leaves you smacking your lips with an orange and cola flavour that just lasts and lasts.

Comment
Quite controversial Rum among Rum lovers for its very noticable orange taste. Because the aromas and flavors are not too complex this is an excellent entry point into the world of sipping Rums.

This tastes like they took two open cases of old oranges, set them on a dock in Jamaica during the rainy season, waited until after the monsoons were over, distilled some moldy molasses along with the oranges and then bottled the result. Singularly one of the worst tasting spirits I have ever sampled. I would not serve it to my worst enemy. Well maybe I would serve it to trump.

I have a collection of around 65 rums and I have this one hidden and use it as a reference of WHAT NOT TO BUY!

A summertime Rum for sure. I get a bunch of lemon, orange peel, with a sweet front, and mild spice at the backend (cinnamon maybe). Taking price into consideration, 9 stars. I've had much worse "sweet" rums at twice the price. Great bottle as a bonus. Great for the beach... or the back deck after mowing the yard in the hot sun earlier in the day.
