India is one of the largest Whisky consumers in the world, but most of their domestic production is dominated by molasses-derived Spirit, which if you ask the EU, isn't even Whisky. But there are a few astonishing exceptions to the rule and it just happens that eight of the Top 10 bestselling Whiskies come from India. One of the secrets with Indian Whiskies is that the hot climate means more water evaporates during aging, making the alcohol by volume rise. Fun times!
Rampur is one of the proud exceptions, but even though they've been making Whisky for more than half a century, they only launched their first export Single Malt in 2016. And it's this bottle! This golden amber luxury is made and bottled in the foothills of the Himalayas, using six-row barley (instead of the traditional two-row variant) and if you were on the fence with this smooth criminal, some say it's the Kohinoor of Single Malts (Kohinoor being one of the largest cut diamonds). Quite a bold statement, but they might be onto something. It's lavish, it's creamy, and it's rich.
