The House of Pampero was founded in 1938 in Caracas, Venezuela by Torro and Alejandro Hernandez, the sons of a fisherman from Isla de Margarita. Back in the day, you could distill Spirits one day and sell it the next as Rum in most Caribbean countries. The Pampero guys never believed that was good enough and set what later became an official standard for Venezuelan Rum to be aged for at least 2 years. Since those early days, Pampero Rum has become an icon and the locals don’t even order it by name anymore – they simply say “Caballito Frenado”. Literally meaning “rearing horse”, a reference to the Llanero a.k.a. Venezuelan Cowboy you can spot on the label. So, the next time you’re in a Venezuelan bar, you know what to ask for.
Triple-distilled and aged in ex-Scotch casks, Pampero Blanco is a light, fresh, and clean Rum with sweet fruity notes. Rum Master Luis Figueroa used 30 types of Rums for just the right balance. And while this Rum might be crystal clear now, it starts as a golden Rum before it’s charcoal filtered to remove the color and keep all the flavors. The unique combination of light and heavy Spirits that go into this blend won it Gold at the esteemed San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2021. Ideal on its own or in any Rum cocktail, especially a Mojito.
