Ravishing Rhum from Réunion

The Isle of Réunion, situated east of Madagascar, isn’t a huge island, but it has three big and famous Rum-making establishments to be proud of: Riviere du Mat, Isautier, and Savanna. The latter was founded back in 1870 when France wanted to diversify sugar production (translation: they wanted more of that lovely Rhum juice). Savanna makes a complete range of Rums: light, traditional, agricoles, and Rums of various ages.

This particular expression is a beast of feast. It’s a traditional Rhum (molasses-based) and it spent seven long years in oak. It was bottled at cask strength (or as the French call it – Brut de Fut), while the entire production took place at the Savanna distillery. It’s an intriguing amber Spirit that caught the tropical soul of the island, underlining it with a potent punch.
