The comeback kid.
Tamdhu, hidden in the Speyside hills of Knockando, started out as a revolutionary distillery in the time of early railroad construction, electricity and industrialisation in Scotland. The founders were obsessed with the idea of perfection and constructed the most advanced distillery of its time. They did so with the help of local natural resources – now, after so many years, their heritage is here for us to enjoy.
The distillery was closed for a little while and their water of life was used to make other blended Whiskies at some point. They came back a few years ago however, under a new autonomous leadership, with a simple goal: to make it as it was and to bring it to life in its former majesty.
The comeback came slowly, but surely. For quite a few years, the 10 YO was their sole single malt offering. Until this little Sherry bomb, that is. Tamdhu Batch Strength is bottled un-chill filtered at natural color and at lavish 58.3% ABV. Each batch is unique and varies slightly in style and intensity. As with every bottle of Tamdhu, once distilled it is matured exclusively in hand-selected American and European Sherry oak casks.
This is a really robust, full flavored dram, so you better watch out. The casks used are mostly first-fill, which means the Whisky is packed with character. It’s a tribute to the Tamdhu heritage that started all those years ago and a reminder that the future is bright. Damn, we enjoy a good comeback story almost as much as we enjoy a good dram. Luckily, this time, we can have both.
