A surprising Asian Rum with a butterscotch flavor profile that’s far more than "silver."
The original distillery that would become Tanduay was founded in Hagonoy, Philippines, in 1854. Let’s just say that record-keeping in the Philippines was problematic at the time. But we do know that there was a series of mergers and acquisitions and primary distillation was moved to Manila in the early 1900s and the grandchildren of the original known managers reacquired the distillery and brand through their Elizalde & Company, Inc. The business continued to flourish, becoming a beloved producer of Rums and other Spirits in the Philippines. The mammoth LT Group purchased the entire operation in 1988, which still produces some of the most popular Spirits in Southeast Asia.
When you taste and review as many Rums as we do, you can get a little jaded. But when we sampled Tanduay Asian Rum Silver we knew it was something a different. First, get past the word "Silver."
Most of the time in the world of Rum — and Tequila for that matter — "silver" means un-aged Spirit straight from the stills. But with Tanduay Asian Rum Silver you can see that it is not perfectly clear. It has an almost Champaign color. And this is not "fake color aging." This Rum is actually a blend of Asian Rums aged for five years in refill ex-Bourbon barrels. It’s won a slew of awards and is one of two signature Tanduay Rums used to break into the US market.
