A lovely Whiskey blend from Dublin.

The Liberties is a part of Old Dublin that used to be where it’s at. For everything and everyone. In the late 1800’s and 1900’s, this was the hub for creatives, thinkers, distillers, brewers, artisans, you name it. The Dublin Liberties Distillery was built in the 1700s as a mill. Then, it was a tannery and then, it became a distillery that’s still nestled today in the heart of this historic distilling district. Today, they might produce over 700,000 liters of Whiskey per year but they still source all their malt from Irish farmers and draw water from their own well within the distillery, which fell as rainwater here over 10,000 years ago.

The Dublin Liberties 5 Year Old Oak Devil is a blend of malt and grain Whiskeys. The mash bill features 30% malt and 70% grain. The blend was aged for 5 years in ex-Bourbon barrels and bottled at 46% without chill-filtration or any artificial nonsense. Called liquid gold, expect plenty of flavors of toffee apples, cider, and caramel, rounded up by gentle nutmeg, cinnamon spice, and lingering sweetness. Savor over ice or in a Whiskey-forward cocktail.

Smartass Corner:
This fantastic blend was named after the story of the Oak Devil that stood and watched over The Liberties distillery district in Dublin. One night, the Oak Devil suddenly disappeared and legend has it that he was seduced by the Whiskey angels that escaped from the nearby barrels. Not such a terrible faith after all, I guess?

6.8/10. BR. Pretty good. Definitely taste the bourbon finish Irish and bourbon are good but mixing the two don’t work for me ( see keepers heart). Not sure I’d buy again.
