An unapologetic, perfectly balanced Islay Single Malt.
The Ileach Whiskies come from the Vintage Malt Whisky Company and are designed to be a mystery. “Ileach” is the word that residents of Islay call themselves. It’s even the name of the local neighborhood newspaper serving the Scottish Islands of Islay and Jura. But when you purchase either the regular Ileach Peaty at 40% ABV or the The Ileach Cask Strength at 58%, you will find that there is no age statement (NAS) and that the name of the distillery is missing. Buyers are rewarded with a delicious, smoky, mysterious drams either way that have been praised and immortalized by Jim Murray.
The Ileach releases their Whiskies during the annual Islay Whisky Festival. The annual batches vary a bit from year to year based upon the mysterious factors of earth, sea, and grain. But there are a few consistencies. There is little marketing spin and there are no compromises — this is a blue Islay Single Malt with all the unbridled smoky joy of Spirit that Whisky-lovers are looking for in a bright, youthful dram.
Smartass Corner:
The source distillery is supposed to be a mystery, but that doesn’t mean we can’t take a guess. Since it is a Single Malt, by law it’s not a blend. It has been sold in the official distillery shop at Bowmore Distillery, hinting that it hales from either Bowmore or its sister distillery, Laphroaig. Taste, mouth feel, bottle, and label style… we suspect it’s a youthful Bowmore.
