An Imperial Stout finished Blended Irish Whiskey that is perhaps the boldest dram from The Quiet Man.
As a boy, Ciaran Mulgrew would sometimes go to work with his dad at the local pub where he was a barman. As he tells it, while tending bar he would hear stories told by patrons. But he kept those stories quiet as a confessional. He was the Quiet Man. Ciaran has since spent his career in the drinks business and named his Irish Whiskey after his father in this way. The Quiet Man Whiskies are made by his Niche Drinks company which is a subsidiary of Luxco, which as of 2021 is owned by MGP. But Niche Drinks is left alone in Ireland to keep on doing exactly what they have been doing from the start — making great Irish Whiskies and Cream Liqueurs.
Imperial Stout is billed as the strongest-flavored and highest alcohol ABV of the Stout Beers. The barrels used in fermenting and aging this darkest of Beers are, as you might expect, deeply colored and flavored by the Beer that was contained in them. The Quiet Man Imperial Stout Finish starts with their Superior Blended Irish Whiskey aged in ex-Bourbon casks. Then they finish the Whiskey in those Imperial Stout casks, bringing a deeper color and earthy flavor profile rich in hops that pairs wonderfully with the natural profile of the Spirit. This beefy Irish beauty is bottled at 43% ABV.
Smartass corner:
Imperial Stout was originally called "Russian Imperial Stout" because it was developed by Thrale’s Anchor Brewery in London specifically for export to the court of Catherine the Great in Russia. The Empress issued them a royal warrant to use the word "Imperial."
