A delightful Single Malt from the heart of the Cairngorms with a clean, crisp palate.

There is not even a freeway off-ramp for the little town of Tomatin. But that’s OK, keeps the city-folk out. Back in the 1970s, this little out-of-the-way hamlet produced more Whiskey than anyplace in Scotland. Well, that’s no longer true, but their Highland Single Malt is still a core component of many of the finest blends, including two of their own: Antiquary and Talisman. Today, Founded in 1897, Tomatin is owned by mega-corp Takara Shuzo from Japan, where demand for their products is huge. But they stab off a selected amount of their production for their own signature Single Malt Whisky line across a range of ages and special editions.

Tomatin Legacy is an experiment in wood. They have taken their signature Single Malt Whisky and aged some of it in ex-Borboun barrels and the rest in virgin oak. This makes Tomatin Legacy lighter and brings more vanilla to the expression than the other products in their range. And as an NAS dram, it is an internal blend… meaning a mixture of vintages of their Single Malt line. It’s bottled at a pleasant 43% ABV and — by our count — this dram has won at least nine prestigious medals since its initial release in 2014.

Smartass Corner:
Tomatin Legacy is a tribute to the heritage of their namesake town. Tomatin is located in the Highlands just outside of Cairngorms National Park about 22 miles southeast of Inverness. The signature flavor profile is similar to a Speysider.
