A soft, gentle Single Malt from Tomintoul aged twelve years and finish in Sherry casks.
The Tomintoul Distillery was founded in 1964 by two successful Whisky trading companies — Hey & Macleod and W. & S. Strong. Initially, all the Spirit was intended to support premium blends. But demand was fierce, so they doubled capacity in 1974 when they issued their first Single Malt release. It has changed hands several times, but is now owned by Angus Dundee Distillers PLC, who also own the Glencadam Distillery. Although officially a Speyside, it actually sits on the River Avon in the northeastern hills of Cairngorms National Park.
The Tomintoul Distillery is somewhat famously known as "The Gentle Dram" due to the exceptional softness and smoothness of their easy-sipping Single Malt. Tomintoul 12 Year Old Oloroso Sherry Cask Finish has been aged a minimum of twelve years — though some older Spirt usually gets in there during blending and flavor profiling. The dram is then finished in Oloroso Sherry casks.
Smartass Corner:
Glenlivet is one of the three biggest Single Malt brands in the world. But there are several Whiskies that are legally allowed to use the word “Glenlivet” in the labeling due to regional and estate identification. Examples include Tamnavulin, Glen Moray, Speyburn, and Tomintoul.
