XM Rum Supreme 15 Year Old

Banks DIF Ltd. is a really interesting company. They were the first publicly traded company in Guyana, had the first Coca-Cola franchise in Latin America, and control a diversified portfolio of beverages, hotels, chocolate processing, bars, and other food and beverage businesses. But it all got its start in 1840 when José Gomes D’Aguilar started making Rum. Even today, fully 12% of the country’s GDP comes from sugarcane. The leftover pressings and molasses from that production is used to make to produce several of their Spirits brands, including XM Rums.

Since Guyana sits just north of the equator, the temperature and amount of sunlight are remarkably consistent all year long and the climate is tropical. This is ideal for growing sugarcane with high sugar content. XM Rum Supreme 15 Year Old is — first and foremost — a Demerara Rum. The means it is made from the remaining brown sugars and molasses after "first-press" white sugars have been extracted. The resulting Spirit has been blended from the XM Rum portfolio aged a minimum of fifteen years in oak. It is their oldest and finest expression.
