Whiskies from the land of the rising sun were brought into the spotlight half a decade ago when Jim Murray awarded Yamazaki Sherry Cask the best World Whisky back in 2013.

And that was the Japanese Whisky bullet heard ‘round the world—it kickstarted a crazy so intense that it depleted the Whisky stock globally, making aged Whisky almost impossible to find.

Yamazaki 2011 is a limited annual release aged in Bourbon casks and bottled at 48% ABV. As you can imagine, it’s a phenomenal Japanese dram that can easily compete with (and probably defeat) its older Scotch cousins.
