The Family Scotch.
Can you imagine having thousands of barrels of quietly aging Sherry-mature Scotch to your name? Well, the Grant Family can... and does! Glenfarclas is one of the few independent family-owned distilleries left in Scotland. It's located in the heart of Speyside. The Grant Family bought it for a pretty penny in 1865. They are committed to the vision of creating the best Single Highlander Scotch and we believe they're doing a splendid job so far!
The Whisky is stored in traditional dunnage warehouses — a change of purpose extraordinaire, right?! — that date from the late 1800s. The thick stone walls and earth floors are perfect for aging Scotch and give the distillery a distinctive, traditional feel.
Glenfarclas is all about mastering raw power and they do it with aplomb. Their Big Stills — the biggest in Speyside — are heated up with direct fire instead of indirectly with steam. This is instrumental in creating the gripping duality of Glenfarclas Whisky: it is at once weighty and light, deep but crisp, and even though it's almost exclusively aged in first-fill ex-Sherry barrels, it never becomes syrupy, unpleasantly woody or overbearingly fruity. Uncle Flaviar once said that every dictionary should include a picture of Glenfarclas when you look up the definition of the word balance.
The Glenfarclas 17 Year Old Whisky is bottled at 43% ABV and is an amazing example of the distillery's signature flavor profile and complex character. Maybe add a drop of water, but definitely share it with friends for that extra ooomph!
